The memory stick in question was found outside a pub in Cannock, Staffordshire. An inquiry has been launched after the memory stick containing user names and passwords for a key government computer system was found in a pub car park.
Atos Origin the subcontractor which lost the stick, said there had been a "direct breach" of its procedures.
Too right!
It said the matter was being taken "extremely seriously" but the integrity of the website, which was closed for a short time, had not been compromised.
Well that's alright then!
Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the company would have "to explain itself". Although having something else to think about for fifteen minutes was probably a blessed relief.
The data breach is the latest in a series of embarrassing blunders regarding government information.
There is of course some good news and that is that Net-Ctrl have a number of products that can mitigate this risk, To find out more please call us.
