Phishing attacks are up more than 180% in a year.
Governments and security experts are reporting that hi-tech fraudsters are using the back-drop of the financial crisis to rip us off. Posing as the owners of recently taken over banks the fraudsters are endeavouring to extract valuable information in order to extract cash from our accounts. So serious is it that a UK parliamentary group said it expected a move away from ID theft towards attacks on account holders.
Favourite of Net-Ctrl, Secure Computing said its October spam report showed that many of the banks and other financial institutions caught up in the turmoil were topping its list of phishing targets.
So, what can be done to counter illegal phishing scams?
Net-Ctrl have a range of "in-the-cloud" and Internet Gateway anti-phishing and antispam products, including those from Secure Computing that will recognise the content and IP address of the inward email and compare the destination URL against its global black-list. Trusted Source is Secure Computing's reputation based filter that will, as part of your internet usage protocol, help fight the phishermen.
