Swivel Announces PINsafe 2FA Security for Microsoft Online Service Enterprise Users
- By Josh Moore
- Published 31/08/2010
PIN safe is the leading token less multi—factor authentication vendor, and is designed to combat threats ranging from skimming, phishing and spyware to shoulder-surfing and key logging. The process includes attaching a pin sent to an electronic device, such as a mobile phone, matching this code with a randomly generated number string in order to gain access to certain areas.
Don Taylor, Swivel Secure’ s CEO, said “We are naturally delighted to have been selected by Microsoft as one of only two approved authentication vendors for its online services. In the current economic climate many businesses are looking to leverage the substantial savings offered by moving their core business applications into the cloud but have been concerned about protecting their confidential data in the more exposed Web environment. For Microsoft, PINsafe provides potential Business Productivity Online Suite users with the added layer of trust needed to make the move to the cloud; for Swivel it is a major endorsement of the PINsafe technology by the world’s leading IT company.”
Swivel PINsafe Awarded CCTM Accreditation

Swivel secure was awarded the CESG claims tested mark (CCTM) for the highly acclaimed PINsafe technology, now used in almost every country around the world.
This award means that PINsafe has been rigorously tested in the field by independent judges, judging on functionality, configuration and integration capabilities as well as the ability to protect the users’ identity from shoulder-surfing, phishing attack and man-in-the middle interception during the login process.
The CCTM award was introduced to assure professional bodies that a particular product lives up to ‘what it says on the box’. Chris Russell, Swivel’s CTO commented “CCTM is a widely recognised and coveted standard within the IT security industry and gives our customers the added confidence that our claims for PINsafe have been rigorously and independently verified by a specialist testing organisation. We are clearly delighted to have been awarded the CCTM accreditation and with the recognition this gives us as a leading security vendor.”

WIFI to take excess load from 3G networks
- By Josh Moore
- Published 24/08/2010
The rise of Smartphone’s, netbooks and tablets has resulted in an excessive demand for video content from sites such as YouTube, which is overwhelming the 3G networks. Carl Jefferys, sales manager for Ruckus in Australia and New Zealand commented on the issues at hand "It's killing carriers. The 3G network wasn't designed to handle the requirements of YouTube. Most carriers will admit that they are struggling to meet the throughput."
To combat such problems, Ruckus amongst several other manufactures are conducting trials with carriers by giving their networks the ability to offload 3G traffic. The process called 3G offload will shift the 3G traffic from the 3G network to a higher bandwidth, local WiFi network operated by the same carrier, maintaining high speeds of traffic during peak times.
The plan is to deploy WiFi networks in densely population urban areas. One of Ruckus' largest carriers, Hong Kong carrier PCCW, has installed a Ruckus wireless access point in the roof of 5000 phone boxes, with talks already commencing with Australian telcos to introduce the solution into Australia, it seems this is a solution we may soon see implemented on a much larger scale.
