Ruckus Wireless is thought to currently be one of the front runners for a multi-million pound bid to supply O2 with the largest free public Wi-Fi hotspot in Europe, covering areas including Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, as part of the build-up to London 2012 and the Queens Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.
The winner of this bid is likely to also be used at the supplier for both the Olympics and Transport for London plans to install Wi-Fi into 120 Underground Stations. O2 is already the main provider of mobile telephony for the Olympics, and plans to use Wi-Fi to offload mobile voice and data traffic to minimise airwave congestions.
