Ruckus Wireless and ShoreTel, the leading provider of brilliantly simple IP phone systems, have announced that they will be combining their respective Wi-Fi and VoIP technology solutions, to offer a Mobile Unified Communications (UC) Starter Kit,  specifically designed for the small and medium business sector.

The addition of theRuckus Wireless Wi-Fi technology will extend ShoreTel’s VoIP reach beyond the wired environment, allowing customers to use smartphones, tablets and voice over Wi-Fi phones over their existing enterprise IP voice system, while maintaining superb voice quality.

Two of London’s premiere exhibition venues, Olympia and Earls Court, who see over 2.2 million visitors come through their doors each year; have replaced their former Aruba Networks system with Ruckus Wireless. The change is in order to address previous shortfalls including poor reliability, performance and scalability problems. Both exhibition halls also noticed the need to provide mobile data offload from the increasingly congested cellular networks.

The new Ruckus Wireless systems will provide high speed, dual band (2.4 and 5Ghz) 802.11n Wi-Fi technology, capable of supporting up to 600 Mbps. Both venues have also benefited from 35% fewer access points, whilst delivering extender coverage and up to 10 times the performance they previously experienced.

The venues carried out speed testing between the Aruba WLAN and Ruckus solutions, they found Aruba delivered 0.2 Mbps of uplink and downlink performance, compared to 16Mbps uplink and downlink throughput from the Ruckus solution.
